Moto Z2 Play

Moto Z2 Play review: A lot of phone for £379.99, but the lack of convincing Moto Mods mean it's not quite the Honor 9 killer we were expecting

Slick software ; Affordable price ; Fantastic battery life

Odd design ; Camera struggles in varying conditions ; Not convinced by Moto Mods

The original Z2 Play was Trusted’s battery life champion until the Lenovo P2 came along. Which is why I had high hopes for the Z2’s stamina. Despite the fact Motorola has swapped the original Z’s 3510mAh battery for a smaller A 3000mAh cell to...

Motorola Z2 Play review

Moto does modular right with this great value mid-ranger

Premium build and quality screen - even at 1080p ; Silky performance and great battery life ; Nifty modular accessories

Camera lacks colour punch ; Moto Mods quickly get expensive ; Phone still looks weird without a Mod in place

A magnificent mid-ranger that might not wow on sheer specs, but still impresses with modular magic

Motorola Moto Z2 Play review: Lenovo’s modular phone makes a triumphant comeback

The Motorola Moto Z2 Play might be a mouthful but this modular smartphone builds on everything we loved about the original

Attractive price ; Decent performance boost ; Fantastic low-light camera

Battery isn't as long-lasting

Its all-day battery life alone is enough to have you reaching for your wallet, even if it isn’t quite so long-lasting as last year’s. The issue, aside from the slight performance bump and the design overhaul, is that the Moto Z2 Play doesn’t really...

Motorola Moto Z2 Play review

The more time I spend with the Moto Z2 Play, the more I like this midrange phone.

The Moto Z2 Play has a beautiful screen and all-day battery life. There’s expandable storage, lots of software tricks and even a headphone jack.

Its best software feature doesn’t always work. The phone feels wide and uncomfortable without a magnetic back cover, and not much better with covers that don’t fit well. Last year’s Z Play had much longer battery life.

Strong battery life, clever software and magnetic Mod add-ons make the Motorola Z2 Play a compelling midrange choice.

Motorola Moto Z2 Play

The Z2 Play is a unique unlocked phone that combines solid performance with a modular design that taps into Motorola's Moto Mods add-ons.

Useful modular design. Current software and virtually no bloatware. Compatible with all major US carriers. Long battery life.

Difficult to use with one hand. Tinny speaker. Slightly pricey for the specs.

The $499 Moto Z2 Play is yet another solid modular phone from Motorola. On its own, it offers respectable performance, long battery life, and compatibility with all major US carriers. It pulls ahead of some of the competition when you start snapping on...

Motorola Moto Z2 Play Review

Join us as we take a look at the new Moto Z2 Play, as well as a trio of new Moto Mods.

Attractive, thin design ; Decent battery life ; Motorola's Android UI tweaks work great ; Largely satisfying camera ; Modular hardware is an open door for new features

Display not bright enough, colors not accurate ; Sound quality is not very satisfying ; Recharge times should be faster ; Performance not a huge upgrade over first-gen model ; Moto Mods can add significant cost to ownership

Motorola Moto Z2 Play

A far better all-round offering than its predecessor, the Moto Z2 Play is a solid smartphone sans Moto Mods.

Premium finish; Solid processing power; Streamlined UI

Unsightly camera bulge; Can become expensive with Moto Mods

Getting your hands on a Moto Z2 Play will cost you around R8 799, including JBL SoundBoost 2 Moto Mod. It's a relatively good value for money price given the Z2 Play's considerably better all-round performance compared to its predecessor.
