Sony's Master Series Z9F LCD TV has a remarkably bright picture and the convenience of hands-free Google Assistant voice control, for a premium price.

Bright picture with strong contrast. Wide color gamut. Android TV with hands-free Google Assistant.

Yellows are very warm out of the box. Clunky, dated remote. Some light bloom.

Bottom Line: Sony's Master Series Z9F LCD TV has a remarkably bright picture and the convenience of hands-free Google Assistant voice control, for a premium price.

Sony ZF9 4K TV review: Legendary wide viewing angle is let down by black levels

 

The first LCD TV to offer groundbreaking wide viewing angles. Its picture quality suffers black level issues, though, so it's not an all-out success.

Superb colour and sharpness and motion handling thanks to Sony’s new video processing ; Ground-breaking wide viewing angle for LCD technology ; Much cheaper than its illustrious predecessor

Significant black level/contrast issues – including general greyness and blooming during wide-angle viewing ; New version of Android TV is still far from perfect

Sony has solved the LCD conundrum of wide viewing angle issues. Which is incredible. Yet, sadly, the ZF9 has issues with black levels that make it not as impressive as its ZD9 predecessor.
