Samsung continues to improve its SmartCam line in just about every way—but not quite enough to overtake the design and features of the competition.
Excellent full motion video. Local storage on microSD card. Simple Wi-Fi Direct setup with free Android or iOS app. Ethernet setup option for desktops. 2.4 and 5GHz Wi-Fi supported. Excellent night vision.
Lacks the home automation options of the competition. As big as a hockey puck. No online "DVR" recording. Desktop Web viewing requires extra browser plug-in.
Conclusions The SmartCam HD Pro is an improvement all around from the previous iteration. Adding storage and better optics is a huge step forward, and the setup was about as instantaneous as it gets, all at a great price. But ultimately, it's just a...

Samsung's $189 SmartCam HD Pro was designed to compete directly with the $199 Dropcam Pro . As far as IP cameras go, both offer straightforward setup, an impressive array of app-related features, and 1080p resolution, but the Dropcam Pro still feels...
Tons of app-accessible features make Samsung's $189 SmartCam HD Pro an extremely hands-on, customizable IP camera. It has less lag time than the $199 Dropcam Pro and offers SD card storage.
The camera's components feel cheap. The video quality isn't as crisp as its Dropcam Pro competition even though both are 1080p.
The Samsung SmartCam HD Pro is a very good IP camera, but Dropcam Pro still has it beat in terms of durability, app design, and overall video quality.

Frustrations with the mobile and web apps overshadow everything we like about this Dropcam competitor.
SD slot for storing footage, which means no cloud storage fees ; Excellent viewing angle
Connection problems were a constant concern
Samsung’s SmartCam HD Pro is another in the company’s long line of me-too products, but this one doesn’t improve on much of anything.

A decent camera but lack of scheduling and non-subscription cloud services robs it of some functionality
Great video quality, good real time viewing performance, free ‘motion zones’
No cloud services without a subscription, poorly designed app, no scheduling available
The Samsung SmartCam HD Pro is good all around camera. However, its poorly designed app and lack of any cloud services without a subscription would make it a poor choice for many users.

The Samsung SmartCam HD Pro is a very good home security camera. Its adjustable resolution, SmartThings integration and excellent nighttime video are good reasons to choose the camera. While it has some connection troubles, it's still a worthwhile...
The Samsung SmartCam HD Pro works with the Samsung SmartThings smart home system.
The camera's Wi-Fi connection dropped multiple times during our tests.
The Samsung SmartCam HD Pro has great video quality, especially at night. It is easy to set up, though it has some connection problems.

Ultimately the camera does what it promises and the initial setup is simple, but you will need some patience to complete advanced setup options on a Mac.

An HD security camera with something of an identity crisis
The quality of the images provided by the Smartcam HD Pro make it a cut above a standard security camera. This is more of a hybrid device, somewhere between a security camera and webcam. Colours are well-defined and images are crisp, even at a...

Internet camera looks good on paper, runs into problems in everyday use
Day/Night footage ; Easy setup ; Smartphone app
Network issues ; No off-camera storage ; Video quality out of network
Keeping an eye on the home while out and about these days is common practice. Internet cameras have become popular due to the ease of scanning for intruders or checking on the welfare of a child. Selecting the right model can be challenging, based on

It was inevitable that major OEMs would try to beat startup Dropcam at their own game, by providing inexpensive, HD IP camera for home security enthusiasts, people with babies and folks who just in general like to watch. Samsung has a few entrants in...
SD card storage with no recurring fees ; Relatively inexpensive
No cloud-based recording option (if the camera is stolen, so is your video)
Samsung has delivered a capable piece of kit with the SmartCam HD which works well once you get past the slightly onerous setup process. The problem is, it’s not really that much cheaper than its competition from dedicated IP camera maker Dropcam ($10...
