The death of stereo may have been announced by multichannel-minded commentators some time ago, but Yamaha is just one of several big names to have announced a whole new range of stereo components recently.

Open and detailed uppermidrange, with superb spacearound instruments andhence some highly plausibleimaging, For the money, thisis well worth a look, even inthe face of the competition.

A little coloration in the tenorregister is a bit much withsome speakers, and bass isn'tthe best controlled.

While it isn't all things to all men, what this amp does well itdoes very well indeed

Yamaha returns from home cinema to its real hifi stereo roots with this stereo amplifier; the AX-497.

Open and detailed upper midrange, with superb space around instruments

Dat zou goed kunnen, maar het is meer waarschijnlijk dat de Yamaha AX-497 (sterk) is verouderd. Dat kun je hieronder controleren bij de actualiteit van de score. Neemt niet weg dat je er waarschijnlijk verstandig aan doet om de ranglijst te raadplegen...

Amp it up

 

I wanted to add my review to these, as they helped me make my decision. Thanks to all who contributed.

What nice clean sound. No extra surround amps or tuner inside to cause interference. I also purchased a pair of Polk Monitor 70 Series II speakers on sale from Newegg to run with this unit. I Bi-Wired the speakers. I also use an older Denon DVD 2200...

Yes

 

Ordered Sunday, shipped Tuesday, arrived on Thursday on the week before Xmas so solid service again from Newegg.

I own this and an Onkyo TX-8255 and the sound from this one completely outclasses the Onkyo. At $200 this was really a good deal

Doesn't have a tuner or a subwoofer out, not really cons for what I needed

Some may not like the look of it but I did... ! Performs great and the loudness control takes some getting used to but it improves the sound at low level no problem. The remote is great too.

I hate knobs sticking out of the front; but at this price I wont moan!
