TomTom XL (2nd generation) Review - GPS

tomtom xl (2nd generation) review: Compact, correctable, good looking and easy to use, the XL is a great portable GPS. But does its wider screen justify the AU$100 difference between it and the otherwise identical One?

Slimmer, sexier than before, Easy-to-use interface, Make and share map corrections, Folds up compactly

Is a wider screen worth an extra AU$100?, No Bluetooth hands-free, Routing engine addicted to main roads

Purchased one early Dec 2008 for travel around Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and everywhere in between over a six week period. Had no problems whatsoever. Have used midrange Garmin previously and found this just as good if not better.

Quick and easy to use ; Red light and speed cameras (static) identified ; Good selection of POI's ; Quick rerouting if you miss street etc or go another way

Home charger should be included

I have had this unit for 8 weeks, only used for 5 weeks and it is broken already. The problem is that it won't start and TomTom have no answers. They won't replace it after 2 weeks (not a good christmas present), and they said it will take at least 2...

Day time use it works ok in must cases.

Lots, see above.

Tom Tom GPS really disappoints in that you cannot search using only the street name - you have to know the suburb or city name to commence a search. This is very frustrating if you have a street address, but are unaware of the suburb's name. Several...

Maps are pretty good and unit is relatively easy to use

You cannot search by street name ; No AC charger included in the box ; Only a 1 year warranty ; Customer support is very poor

This is my first ever GPS, bought it few weeks ago. Can't really find anything that I don't like yet. Very easy to use, I even managed to share a map correction that I picked up only afer few days of using.

simple to use interface. solid windscreen mount. Tomtom Home software has lots of features. Clear voice text to speech. Quick re-routing.

A wall charger should be included. The unit alwasy reset itself to default afer connected to Tomtom Home.
