Bose Frames Alto review

Everyone knows Bose is responsible for impressive innovations that shake up the audio world. With the Frames, Bose is once again digging up fertile new ground in the somewhat stagnant audio genre. But can these audio sunglasses offer enough versatility...

Excellent lenses Sleek design blends in well Impressive audio clarity and detail Brilliant for biking and outdoor use Basic IPX2 water resistance

Short battery life Very weak bass response AR applications are limited, iOS only

If you’re looking for a unique and exciting new way to get your tunes, and you love to get out in the sun, Bose’s Frames are definitely worth considering. But if you want something more versatile for your $200, you may instead want to try a good pair...

Bose Frames review: These audio sunglasses sound surprisingly good

Their AR features are still in the works, but for listening to music and making calls, the Frames exceed expectations.

The Bose Frames deliver surprisingly decent sound using embedded micro speakers. While the arms are slightly bulky, the sunglasses don't feel heavy on your head and are comfortable to wear. Using the sunglasses to make calls works well. Even though the...

Battery life isn't great. There's no prescription lens option available from Bose, and adding a third-party prescription lens voids the warranty. The charging cable is proprietary.

While the audio AR features are still in the works, the Bose Frames managed to produce decent enough audio to make them a compelling wearable audio device that can take the place of headphones.

Bose Frames review: Made in the shades

Call them a whole new take on headphones: Bose Frames are sunglasses with tiny Bluetooth speakers built in.

There’s a surprisingly good entertainer hiding out in these shades Users stay engaged and safe, with their ears and eyes open Significant potential for interactive augmented-reality applications

Only 3.5 hours of battery life, and recharging requires a proprietary cable On an iPhone, the only music apps you can control with voice commands are Apple’s own These shades won’t hide in the pocket of your skinny jeans

Bose Frame Alto Audio Sunglasses Review

I love wearable tech. I especially love quirky wearables, so naturally, when Bose announced its Bose Frames Alto, Bluetooth sunglasses with speakers built-in, I was onboard.

As much as I would love to see some added weather protection and a USB type C port for the next revision of the Bose Frames, this is still a solid product with huge potential.

Bose Frames Alto review: don't throw away your headphones yet

For attempting to bring something new to the market, you have to applaud Bose for doing a lot right. Don't expect them to replace your headphones, though.

Comfortable to wear ; Audio quality for calls and podcasts ; Build-quality

Sound lacks bass ; Bose AR not ready

I was skeptical about the Bose Frame Alto at first, but I must admit they did grow on me. The Alto design is definitely a little large for my face, and I'd probably go for the Rondo's if I was going to buy these for myself. Even so, they are very...

Bose Frames review: smart audio sunglasses are a blast

Music without earbuds looks and sounds surprisingly good, making these smart glasses the antithesis of Google Glass

music without blocking your ears or making a racket for others, look good, choice of lenses and frames, comfortable, sound good, solid Bluetooth connection, excellent call quality

no battery in the case and only 3.5 hours between charges, will never be your only set of earphones, can’t protect from noise of the outside world, AR potential unrealised

The Bose Frames are delightful – a set of premium sunglasses that also act as your personal music system. Kept to 50% or lower those next to you can’t hear your music, but because your ears are open you can hear the world around you.

I Tried Bose’s Surprisingly Nice-Looking Audio Sunglasses

They offer augmented reality — and look like Ray-Bans.

For now, the Frames are a promising novelty, though its potential hinges on what other apps might be coming (could an AR video game be far behind?). They’re nice-enough glasses and nice-enough headphones, but some situations just don’t call for the...
