Altec Lansing BackBeat 900 review

Editors' note: The following review is for the Altec Lansing BackBeat 903. The BackBeat 903 and 906 headset models are identical. The products are differentiated by a Bluetooth 2.0 audio adapter that is included with the 906 model only.

The Altec Lansing BackBeat 906 stereo Bluetooth headphones provide an open, detailed sound, excellent call quality, and a flexible, lightweight fit.

The thick behind-the-neck cable and ear-hugging design may be uncomfortable to some users and the open nature of the earpiece sacrifices some sonic range compared with a sealed design.

The Altec Lansing BackBeat 906 is a ruggedly-constructed, thoughtfully conceived, and sonically impressive stereo Bluetooth headset, but the one-size-fits-all design may disappoint some users.

Altec Lansing Backbeat (Black/Gold) review

Altec Lansing is a long-standing competitor in the iPod speaker market, so it makes sense that the company now produces a variety of headphones, as well. It currently makes three sets of BackBeat earphones: the Titanium 326 , Plus 206, and Classic 106....

The Altec Lansing BackBeat Plus 206 earphones offer a comfortable fit; impressive sound for the money; and a durable, cloth-covered cord.

When the BackBeat Plus 206's cloth cord rubs against your clothing, you can sometimes hear that rubbing sound if your MP3 player is set to low volumes or during the silence between songs; no carrying case is included.

Although Altec Lansing's BackBeat Plus 206 earbuds may be a slight step down from the BackBeat 326 earphones, they offer very good sound for the money.

Altec Lansing Backbeat Titanium review: Altec Lansing Backbeat Titanium

Altec Lansing Backbeat Titanium

The Altec Lansing BackBeat Titanium 326 earphones offer a comfortable fit and excellent sound for the money. The cloth-covered cord seems durable and a carrying case is included.

When the BackBeat Titanium 326 cord rubs against your clothing, you may be able to hear it if your MP3 player is set to low volumes or if it's during the silence between songs.

About $40, the Altec Lansing BackBeat Titanium 326 earbuds offer impressive sound for the buck.

"Good sound while letting the outside in."

I've used the Altec 906 with my Blackberry Storm for almost three years and now with my HTC Rezound rather than the Beats that came with the Rezound. I would rather put up with the lack of natural base of the Altec over the hip hop muddy base of the...
