Velocity Micro's 2019 Raptor Z55 is a straightforward, cleanly assembled power desktop that posts excellent all-around performance. Its GeForce RTX 2080 Ti in our test config is ready for high-refresh 1440p gaming and capable of 60fps 4K gaming.

It isn't a major head-turner, but Velocity Micro's Raptor Z55 gaming desktop is highly configurable, well built, and low-fuss. As tested, with a limited-edition Intel CPU and top graphics, it's blazing-fast for 4K gaming—and all other tasks.

The Velocity Micro Edge Z55 blows away the competition on five of our six 3D gaming tests, and costs $3,000 less than our last Editors' Choice high-end gaming desktop.

The Velocity Micro Edge Z55 isn't the flashiest gaming desktop, but it combines top components, like a fourth-generation Intel Core i7 processor and Nvidia GeForce GTX 780 GPU, with a healthy feature set for excellent performance and value.

Velocity Micro's Edge Z55 is the second PC we've seen with Intel's new Core i7 processor. This $2,499 gaming desktop is not quite as ambitious as the $8,000 or so Falcon Northwest Mach V , but thanks to the new chip and a smart configuration, the Edge...
Fast overclocked Intel Core i7 processor; ample memory and graphics card power; provides enough performance to justify its upper midrange price.
Uses two graphics cards when a single, dual-chip card would have done the same work and allowed more room for upgrades.
Velocity Micro's Edge Z55 provides a powerful example of the leap ahead in performance afforded by Intel's new Core i7 CPUs. Velocity Micro's own overclocking efforts don't hurt either. Any PC gamer would love to make this upper midrange desktop their...

The rest of the chassis is the usual high-quality VM work: a midsize tower with attractive lines, good lighting from LED-lit fans, and neat wiring work. Those fans and the ones on the graphics cards are a little loud during heavy gaming sessions, but...
Speedy gaming and multimedia performance. Expandability. Attractive styling and neat interior. No crapware. Blu-ray reader
At lower resolutions, it performs not much better than a $1,200 gaming system. A little loud. Nearly $4,000 is a lot of money
The Velocity Micro Edge Z55 brings Intel's Core i7 to the company's high-performance gaming system. Though not quite as expensive as the systems in the $5K club, its performance is certainly competitive with those in the upper strata.

Unlike the enthusiast system manufacturers, Alienware and VoodooPC, Richmond, Virginia-based Velocity Micro is still an independent, privately held company. In fact, Velocity Micro is doing well enough on its own to have even purchased the enthusiast,...
Lots of upgrade options ; Blu-ray drive ; Well-built, strong case ; Neatly-routed cables ; Extensive documentation and driver discs ; No bloatware installed ; Variable-resolution gaming mouse
Standard warranty includes phone support only during business hours ; Most of the expansion slots are blocked ; Keys on keyboard are difficult to see
Overall the Edge Z55 gave a very respectable showing on our benchmark tests. The CPU- and system-based test results showed us the system's performance is in line with its specs. The 3D gaming results did not necessarily wow us, but then again the...

If you build your own computer you can save yourself 1000 dollars and get better parts. I just recently built a new computer that will out-perform this by miles. Point being this computer sucks and you can really save yourself money.
Had to have ten characters....
Way too far over clocked for an 2nd gen i7. No need for two 100 dollar graphics card when one 200 dollar will out perform it. The price is way too high.

Would never recommend, not worth the money. Regret purchase, not sure why CNET recommended this. Would return this for money back if I could.
Parts were well assembled.
No updates were done, parts not specified in build were cheap, loud and broke constantly. Customer service was ridiculously poor. I have the logs to prove it. Replacement parts were never sent.
