HTC Thunderbolt smartphone

Probably the worst-kept secret phone of CES, the HTC Thunderbolt is finally official on the 4G LTE network of US telco Verizon.

4.3in Super LCD screen, 8-megapixel camera, decent performance

In the absence of a national LTE network we're unlikely to see it in Australia (at least in its current form)

The HTC Thunderbolt is equipped with a 4.3in Super LCD screen. It feels really well-constructed and solid in hand while maintaining the slick aesthetic we've come to expect of HTC phones.

Thunderbolt

At a quick glance, without any background information, your eyes might tell you that the HTC Thunderbolt is little more than a Verizon remake of Sprint's EVO 4G and AT&T's Inspire 4G. After all -- like its contemporaries -- the Thunderbolt features a...

Surreal data speeds ; Typical HTC design, build quality ; Improved camera

Thick, heavy ; Questionable battery life ; Single-core in a dual-core age

Review: HTC ThunderBolt

The ThunderBolt is a thin Android rocket sled with two great cameras and a huge screen. But keep your charger handy.

An ample 8 GB of on-board memory (woot), plus a whopping 32 GB microSD included (WOOT!). At 0.56 inches, profile is trimmer than a supermodel. Front-facing 1.3-megapixel camera makes you look good when chatting. Standard-sized 3.5-mm headphone jack....

Battery tended to heat up faster than a car with a faulty radiator cap. A tad on the heavy side at 6.23 ounces. Loudspeaker is rather tinny — and hidden behind the kickstand. Flash content cannot be viewed while Wi-Fi hotspot is in use. No HDMI port

HTC ThunderBolt

The HTC ThunderBolt, which went on sale March 17, is the first phone available in the United States that can connect to Verizon's lightning-fast 4G LTE network. That fact alone makes the ThunderBolt ('50 with a new two-year contract) a considerable...

Extremely fast ; Latest Sense UI

Lots of bloatware

The well-appointed ThunderBolt is the phone to buy if you want to see what 4G can do.

HTC ThunderBolt (Verizon Wireless) review

Introduced at CES 2011, the HTC ThunderBolt is Verizon's first 4G LTE, and it's finally available for $249.99 with a two-year contract. The Android 2.2 smartphone might not offer the latest and greatest (e.g., dual-core processor), but with the carrier...

The HTC ThunderBolt offers incredibly fast 4G data speeds. The Android 2.2 smartphone also supports simultaneous voice and data over 3G and boasts a large 4.3-inch touch screen, ample storage, and an excellent camera.

Battery life takes a big hit when using 4G. There is no way to toggle between 3G and 4G.

The HTC ThunderBolt lights up with blazingly fast data speeds, but those who want 4G now should be aware that it takes a big toll on the smartphone's battery life.

HTC Thunderbolt (Verizon Wireless)

The HTC Thunderbolt looks and feels huge. It's classy looking, though, in all-gray with a glass front and a soft-touch back. There's a small 1.3-megapixel camera next to the earpiece, and a larger 8-megapixel shooter on the back, along with a...

Incredible Internet speeds. Big, gorgeous screen. Elegant interface. Simultaneous voice and data. Lots of storage

Heavy. Poor battery life when surfing or streaming on 4G. Occasional bugs

The HTC Thunderbolt, the first 4G LTE smartphone for Verizon Wireless, has the fastest Web speeds we've ever seen, but be prepared to carry an extra battery.

HTC ThunderBolt

The HTC ThunderBolt is one of the very, very few 4G devices to actually be up and running on a 4G network (Verizon's LTE roll-out in the US). As such, it's perfectly positioned to act as a lightning rod for all the myths, hype and hassles that come...

4G, HTC Sense, camera performance, call quality, lightening fast data connection

Gets hot, battery life, outdated version of Android, doesn't really have the display or the power to compete with the best high-end handsets

Is the ThunderBolt’s insatiable appetite for energy a deal-breaker? Probably not. Power users will get used to carrying the chunky charger around or investing a second battery, and there’s even a certain kudos to be earned from any phone capable of...

HTC Thunderbolt Review: The First Verizon 4G LTE Smartphone

So I have a confession to make - I'm late on this one. Way late. I managed to catch strep throat, came down with a high fever, then a sinus infection, and as a result missed my goal of having everything Verizon 4G LTE - including the HTC Thunderbolt -...
