HTC Butterfly 2 review: Caterpillar

The Butterfly series may not be the bread winner for HTC but has proven to be among the most resourceful in the family. The HTC Butterfly 2 has a good foundation to build on: a solid screen, the trademark stereo speakers and HTC Sense 6.

5" 1080p capacitive touchscreen with 441pi pixel density ; Android 4.4.2 KitKat with HTC Sense 6 ; 2.5GHz quad-core Krait 400 CPU; 2GB of RAM; Adreno 330 GPU; Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset ; 13MP camera with f/2.2 lens, HTC Zoe mode, dual LED flash ;...

The original Butterfly got a chance to take a look from the top but it was too short to enjoy. The interim flagship was soon ousted by the first HTC One and the Butterflies have since been living in the ruling family's shadow.

HTC Butterfly 2 review: Gives even the One M8 a run for its money

As it's sold only in Asia, the HTC Butterfly series is not as well known as the company's flagship One M8 or midrange Desire family. The Butterfly S did hit US shores as the Verizon Droid DNA , but it was the sole exception.

The HTC Butterfly 2 has almost everything from HTC's One M8, but boots the camera to 13 megapixels. The skin is waterproof, it delivers excellent audio, and it runs on a powerful quad-core processor.

The glossy rear face is a fingerprint magnet. The auto brightness doesn't always correctly adjust to surrounding light, resulting in a too-dim display at times.

It can't compete with the One M8's premium metal skin, but the HTC Butterfly 2's powerful camera and processor make it one of the company's best flagship phones.

HTC Butterfly 2 Review

HTC released the sibling of the One M8 - the Butterfly 2, coming with a 13-megapixel Duo camera setup. Asian model by heart, don't expect to see this one to be widely available, but it will hit the shelves of some shops offering imported unlocked...

Water proof construction that doesn’t require ports to be covered ; New 13-megapixel camera is able to capture more detail ; The software experience is unchanged, still simple & modern looking ; Performance is pretty snappy with everything

The plastic body lacks enough substance to give it a premium feel ; Internal storage capacity has been decreased to 16GB ; Nothing new whatsoever with the experience

Being one of the first to launch its flagship phone for 2014, HTC undoubtedly jumpstarted things and delivered a fantastic product in the HTC One M8. For all of its acclaim and stature, it had some rough edges, like its 4-megapixel camera. Therefore,...
